ULYANOVSK HOSTS A PROJECT BY FACULTY OF DESIGN
IGUMO became an academic partner of the global Architectural ‘Module’ Conference on Soviet modernism. It will take place in Ulyanovsk.
The event holds the fourth ‘Soviet Modernism. From: and To:’ exhibition on September, 14 – 25. The students from the Faculty of Design designed new stamps with famous landmarks of Ulyanovsk for it.
The experts call Ulyanovsk ‘Mecca of Soviet modernism’. In the end of the 1960s, it changed greatly for a small period of time. Ulyanovsk turned into a major tourist area with modern infrastructure and significant architectural objects like Lenin Memorial. Nowadays the city is famous for those objects that symbolize the twentieth century. Experts from all around the world come to Ulyanovsk to see the architectural legacy of Soviet modernism. Lenin Memorial will also hold the fourth ‘Soviet Modernism. From: and To:’ exhibition.
Anna Kharikova, fourth-year student, Faculty of Design:
‘City architecture is always interesting to work with. The project helps expand one’s knowledge about architecture. It’s wonderful that we unite these architectures of different cities.’
The IGUMO guests will open the exhibition. They are also going to participate in the event’s educational program.
One of the conference lectures is called “‘Soviet Modernism. From: and To:’ Project as Pedagogical Instrument”. Anastasia Petrova, Dean of the Design College and Architecture College, will speak about involving students in exploring the architectural Soviet legacy.
