The final reviews of projects by the students of the Faculty of Photography took place at the Institute for the Humanities and Information Technologies (IGUMO). The first-year and second-year students took part in the event.

The aspiring photographers showed the works prepared during their practical classes in two photo studios of IGUMO, on field trips, and outside the Institute. The students shot portraits, urban and rural landscapes, architecture, and provided photo reports.

The students spent a lot of time researching photo artists’ references and tried to bring their style into their photos. For example, second-year students demonstrated their shots inspired by the work of Japanese photographers.

Photography students also continued to take photos outside IGUMO, which was highly appreciated by the experts at the project reviews. For example, Ulyana Glavatskikh and Yaroslava Evseleyeva created photo documentation of their native settlements and Valeria Bogorodskaya showed many photos from her travels.

Second-year students Elena Platonova and Alena Shumilina and first-year students Danila Sedov and Yaroslava Evseleyeva managed to exhibit their projects at the Days of Contemporary Art (DOCA) international festival in 2021.

The project called Horizon Is What We Can Be Sure Of by Danila Sedov was also selected as a finalist of the Young Photographers of Russia 2021 contest. It will be presented at an exhibition in Kaluga in July 2021.

The rest of the Photography students worked at DOCA 2021 as photo reporters and thus enriched their portfolios.

The experts of the project reviews included Elizaveta Zemlyanova, Dean of the Faculties of Design and Photography, artist, and curator of DOCA, Vadim Gushchin, Curator of the Faculty of Photography and famous artist-photographer, and Evgenia Sterlyagova, lecturer, multimedia artist, and independent curator.

They assessed the students’ skills in working with light, compositional solution of the frame, mastery of the studied techniques, and artistic component of students’ works.

The experts emphasized the noticeable growth of many students. They also shared tips on how to design presentations and find one’s own topic for creativity.
