One of the greatest scientists of Russia, Mikhail Vasilievich Lomonosov praised science with these words. In the middle of the XVIII century this idea had not been new. The words about the high destiny of science had been uttered by another famous ancient philosopher, a politician and a brilliant speaker Marcus Tullius Cicero Our great compatriot in one of his scientific treatises explained the ancient theory in the following way: «Science is a clear cognition of truth, an enlightenment of the mind, a pure entertainment in life, a praise to the young and a support to the old.»
At the Institute for the Humanities and Information Technologies they treat science seriously. And this statement applies equally both to the professorial and teaching staff of IGUMO and the students' community.
In higher educational system everything is interconnected. A teacher can remain at the peak of professional competence only if he is constantly developing and doing research. In his turn a student trained to perceive doctrine broadens his range of interests, his attitude, his perception of the world and makes his intellect more powerful. A student of IGUMO makes his first steps toward big science at the institute.
The IGUMO students’ traditional scientific and practical conferences are the first platforms for scientifically oriented students to share their expert knowledge. No matter what the subject matter they are united by a common goal to put this tool of a real researcher into the hands of young scholars.
The questions of arrangement of scientific conferences, round tables and seminars planned for the 2nd half of 2011 (September-December) had been discussed once again in the process of their ratification by the managing body of the institute in the person of Professor M. V. Volynkina, Professor Yu. M. Antonyan and Assistant Professor M. I. Mogachev.
The schedule of escientific forums comprises 4 scientific and practical conferences, two of which have an interuniversity status, and 1 – international; permanently acting scientific and practical seminars, including those for young scientists; a methodological seminar of teachers and students' round tables.
The research program of IGUMO includes research in all the spheres the institute provides training for.
