July, 3, 2012 a meeting of like-minded people took place in IGUMO. The topic «Design and Modern Art» was of great interest to both professionals and young people possessing an ability to see the world with a variety of colors. That day the visitors of the institute were Design College graduates and school-leavers for whom art had become a measure of world perception. The professional team of the hosts of IGUMO was headed by E. Volynkina – Dean of the Design Department, PhD (Economics); M. Simutisov — Head of the Creativity Development Department; M. Afanasyeva Head of Fine Arts Chair; I. Farkhatova – Dean of the Journalism Department, prof. and Sascha Frolova – a favorite student of the «starring» designer Andrey Bartenev.

During the talk show many bright thoughts were voiced: about art with its aesthetical, spiritual and philosophical values; about design whose aim is to turn aesthetics into reality. In general, the participants of the discussion didn't mix those notions but draw parallels between them. That’s why the question «Is Design – art or craft» had become a key one. The participants of the meeting came to the conclusion that modern design is as good as art and what is more – an active use of it makes it possible to combine aesthetics and functionality. And as far as design usage area is unlimited – it can be called the property of society.

According to M. Simutis, designers are «guests fr om the future» who create really cosmic worlds, brave, bold and extremely comfortable and cozy at the same time.

Sascha Frolova who skillfully experiments with forms and colors produced a brilliant art performance art to the young audience. This new style is related to the never ending life process. The wonderful transformations of the super heroine from the future, the sculptural compositions she was first to create from latex were rather positive.

E. Volynkina, Dean of the Design Department emphasized that education of professional designers should be done with ultimate responsibility but it should never lim it the liberty of creation.

The IGUMO guests to the full extent apprehended it during the master class. On the tables in front of them were put down snow-white T-shirts from which they were offered to create «haute couture clothes» by means of felt pens and paints. The creators showed fantasy using some creative elements and bravely working with paints. Being inspired by this M.Volynkina, Rector of the institute promised that the three winners would get some bonuses on entering the Design Department of IGUMO. At the end everybody was presented by their own hand-made T-shirts.

At the end we'd like to address the participants of the Design Day at IGUMO: appreciated your creative potential, we were glad to meet you, we were inspired by your ideas and we would be glad to see you as the students of our Design Department.
