Students spoke on the reasons to visit the Biennale

Students of the Faculty of Design of IGUMO visited the 8th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art. Such events give students the opportunity to see the artworks of the renowned world-level artists, be in a creative dialogue with their best works, and find inspiration for fulfilment of their own ideas.

The main project of the Moscow Biennale ‘Orientation in the Space’. It included upwards of 50 works by 34 artists from 11 countries.

Students of the Faculty of Design of IGUMO analysed creative methods of authors and studied concepts of the projects exhibited. They shared their emotions caused by the most impressive works.

Angelina Savas, first-year student of the Faculty of Design of IGUMO:

“The installation called ‘A Minute before Awakening’ by Egor Plotnikov caught my attention at once. It is about a person whose consciousness ‘is sleeping’. This person lives in a powerful flow of information and often doesn’t remember even a third of what happens around.

The works by Aleksey Luka and Pavel Otdelnov also interested me. Their projects raise the topic of the unnecessary things and the aftermath of cluttering up the world.

I find ‘We Are The Baby Gang’ installation by Paola Pivi one of the cutest projects. Bears are predators but, in her project, they are soft and fluffy animals going in for acrobatics. The artwork is made of feathers. That is why the bears look so tender but at the same time bright and attractive.

The exhibition presented the works of many artists filled with deeper sense. I recommend everyone to use the opportunity to visit the Biennale, get new experience, and find inspiration”.

Anastasia Konstantinova, first-year student of the Faculty of Design of IGUMO:

“I would like to tell you about ‘Prayers and Heroes’ by Andrey Kuzkin. His work shook me to the core. You see 1104 prayers made of breadcrumb. They seem to look inside of you. It took 3 years to create this artwork. This is worth watching and reading what Andrey Kuzkin writes on the wall”.

Anastasia Kropivnitskaya, first-year student of the Faculty of Design of IGUMO:

“The 9th Moscow Biennale amazed me. Artists from 11 countries expressed their emotions through different forms including painting and sculpture. It was difficult to understand at once what the authors wanted to say to the viewer. Everybody perceived the art objects in his or her way and had unrepeatable individual emotions. After that, the guide explained the meaning of all projects for their authors and their ideas.

I liked the artwork by Rashid al Khalifa very much. This is a very massive and at the same time simple construction made of iron bars and flaps. I look at the floor and see the play of light and shadows reminding me of the cubist pictures. According to the guide, Rashid al Khalifa gained inspiration by wandering the city. In my opinion, the author managed to convey the greatness of massive glass buildings of Bahrain”.

Maria Kiseleva, first-year student of the Faculty of Design of IGUMO:

“The visit to the exhibition made me think of the inner space of the person. One can see the small part of oneself in every work, the reflection of one’s own feelings, emotions, and thoughts. When seeing different parts of the exhibitions, you feel like being in a different world and completely forget about what happens around. Every artist gives you ‘the ticket’ to his or her life and creative space where he or she cognizes the world.

The problems touched upon at the exhibition echoed in my heart. I managed to make sense of my inner space and resolve many issues. I clearly understood that my inner space is myself. This is everything what I create and bring to this world”.
