The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly held a meeting with the IGUMO team, the vice-chairman of the Upper House of the Russian Parliament Galina Karelova, and two senators, Valentina Petrenko and Elena Afanasyeva. The institute was represented by the rector, deans of several faculties, the vice-rector Roman Piskunov and the head of the IGUMO media centre Pavel Ivanov. The rector presented a concept of the web portal designed by the professors and students of the institute.
How it all began: a year ago Marina Volynkina and Tatyana Vorozhtsova attended The Eurasian Women's Forum in Saint-Petersburg. The experience started a new field for development and demanded to do some deeper research into the matter. Later on, with the help of the lecturers and the students, two projects “Responsibility of Social Journalism” and “Russian Women Community” were started, the results of their work being presented to the Federation Council. That called for a web portal, to become a national coordination/communication hub in this field. Thus, IGUMO was entrusted to develop the concept of the project.
Starting such a large-scale portal is a great responsibility, but it also provides many opportunities for the students.
Last but not least, Galina Karelova suggested involving the most active students of IGUMO in the Youth Social Council of the Upper House of Parliament.
This project is going to join all Russian women’s communities and help them run their public and media relations. The portal is to let the world know about the support that Russian women give to underprivileged and disabled people, but the main goal is to create a new image of a woman. A modern woman. An active woman. A woman who can change the world for the better.
The site will be very convenient for holding webinars and online-conferences. The information about upcoming meetings will be updated regularly. It might also be the chance to establish an international cooperation between organizations with a similar aim!
