The Faculty of Psychology at IGUMO provides students with a profound theoretical basis for their future profession. Theoretical subjects are taught by professors who have full expertise in the peculiarities of different schools and trends of psychology. It is the Faculty of Psychology at IGUMO that, due to the competence of its teaching staff, established its own School of Modern Psychoanalysis. It is arranged by experts who have international certification and belong to the European Confederation of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapies.
The Faculty of Psychology is both theoretically- and practically-oriented. The School of Modern Psychoanalysis trains specialists in practical psychoanalysis and provides opportunities for qualification upgrade. Students also get intensive practical training. This system has been checked and adjusted in the course of many years of its successful activity. It helps students to acquire practical professional skills already when their studies are still underway. Training classes allow students of the Faculty of Psychology to master the techniques of a business coach and a human resource manager. Master classes conducted at the Faculty of Psychology by well-known psychotherapists and business consultants refer to a wide range of modern psychological practices.
The practically-oriented approach of the Faculty of Psychology is well-known to our colleagues, students and teachers of other faculties. In 2013 a training and research project “Psychological accompaniment of the educational process” was launched, led by O.M.Rumyantseva, professor of general and social psychology. The aim of the project is to help first-year students to get adapted to higher education system, to unite them into a friendly well-coordinated team and to encourage them for their professional advancement. This project is also beneficial for lecturers, as psychological characteristics of each student traced by psychologists in the process of their diagnostics can be used to make training and education of students more flexible concerning their needs and abilities.
Students of the Faculty of Psychology improve their professional skills while working on the project together with their lecturers. Students learn how to create friendly atmosphere and win confidence in communication.
Graduates of the Faculty of Psychology work at recruitment agencies and departments of enterprises, educational and scientific institutions, at state and commercial structures, and at schools. Many of them are engaged in their own private practice.
